Life’s too short not to make a spacesuit.
When I started my studies at The Oslo School of Architecture and Design in 2020, I finally had time to embark on the costume project that had never materialized. Few things are as iconic in the history of space exploration as the spacesuits used during the first moon landing. The image of Buzz Aldrin on the moon, with the blackness of space in the background, has etched itself into human memory. That’s why it had to be this particular suit.
Although the spacesuit is well-known, there are surprisingly few resources available for those who want to create their own spacesuit costumes. During the project, I decided that I wanted to share the patterns and files I created along the way. The world needs more spacesuits!
After about a year’s work, the suit was finished, and it could be presented for the first time at the exhibition Exploring Inspiration x Exploring Inspiration at the School of Architecture and Design in November 2021. Read more about the exhibition here.
